This was a word I got in I believe January of 2017. I wanted to share it here and as well add some current insight. It's been a word that has given me much encouragement this year!
"The Lord gave me a picture of tree roots that were pushing downwards through soil searching for water. That process looked to a bystander to be hard... and there was a "digging in" and rooting in and a spreading out.
And then I saw above the surface of the ground and it didn't look like much was happening. I felt God say that many were feeling discouraged in this season because they don't see much happening "above ground", they don't see much breakthrough or they are going through hard processes that don't seem to be getting them anywhere.
But God said, "Don't be discouraged because in this season you are rooting into me. Your roots are going deep, they are spreading wide and they are going to find the streams of living water. You will be refreshed as you press into me and breakthrough will come above ground."
And then I saw new shoots, branches breaking forth. I felt the encouragement that these roots would be firmly planted and that they would make the trees SO stable and able to reach heights they had not reached before. Just like in the natural, a tree with shallow roots can't withstand a storm, but these trees were UNMOVED regardless what came at them.
So... if you're in that season of "rooting in", be encouraged. There is rest, there is refreshment for you and God is GOOD. Literally all the time. His promises in Jesus are Yes and Amen. Breakthrough is coming."
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:8
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-- whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:3
Fast forward 5 months and I know that I personally and many others I know have experienced that "rooting in". I had an encounter with the Lord somewhat recently where I was in the middle of such a discouraging situation. One that had been dogging me for over a year and as I lay in my bed in the middle of a circumstance that looked hopeless in the physical I lifted my eyes to Him and just started to worship. I could see that even in the midst of my pain that HE IS GOOD and HE IS WORTHY. My hands went up and I just declared aloud all of His goodness, majesty, faithfulness, etc.
What came over me was the deepest peace I have ever encountered. I am a person that highly values walking in peace and I will go after anything that steals my peace. But this peace was far and above anything I've known. And I could FEEL the roots. I could feel a steadying in my spirit and soul and in that moment I felt unshakeable. Nothing could move me from that place. I felt so deeply rooted and those roots were spread wide and they were entrenched in the living waters. It was amazing. All I could think was, "I want to live here ALL the time."
I feel like in my own life and in those around me I can see the new life shooting through the soil and into the light. After what has felt like such dark times to many, the process is now continuing above ground. What I feel God showing me is that one of the markers of that new life, that breaking through surface is that above ground you can SEE. You can see all around you, there is light on areas you haven't experienced before. You will learn to DREAM with God.
When you're rooting in, it can feel like you're just moving ahead inch by inch through nothing but faith. When you break through though, you feel like you have the space to breathe again and to look forward and around and see all the possibilities that are before you in Christ.
It is such a joy to witness the new life in people. To see them grabbing a hold of the passions and giftings in them and taking the risk to jump in. I believe that in the things we overcome, God uses us to lead others to freedom in that area. I believe it was Bill Johnson that I first heard say, "Personal breakthrough brings corporate blessing."
Isn't that just how the Kingdom works? God doesn't waste anything. He did not design or will my negative circumstances but submitted to him He will "make all things work for the good of those who love him." (Romans 8:28).
So, if you are in the rooting in, keep trusting. Keep digging in by faith. Your breakthrough is coming. He's going to use you in this time as well. Steward this season well, be faithful with the things He puts before you.
If you are in the breakthrough - yay! Keep drawing from those deep wells, take a breath and look around. God is inviting you to partner with Him. Inviting you to dream with Him.
